What Happens After You Call
You call (515) 215-8286, you tell us what the door is doing (or not doing), and we ask enough questions to get a rough idea of the part before the truck leaves. On a dead opener or a spring that's let go, that matters, because a spring sized for a 1993-built two-car door isn't always the same spring sized for a door put in during a 2005 addition. We work out of 1610 SE Cortina Dr, so most calls on this side of town don't mean a long wait.
We don't quote a flat price over the phone for anything beyond a basic service call, because we haven't seen the hardware yet. What we will tell you up front is whether it sounds like a spring, a cable, an opener board, or something structural with the track or the jamb. If it's a part we don't carry on the truck, we say so and give you a real timeline instead of a guess.
Once we're there, we look at the whole system, not just the symptom, because a door that's binding on one roller is often a few months from a cable going too. That doesn't mean we sell you a replacement door you don't need.
Where We Work
We're based in Ankeny and most of our days are spent on doors in this immediate area, where housing runs from older 1940s construction through newer builds pushing 2009, with the bulk of what we see dating to the 1980s and 90s. That range matters for parts - an original one-piece door from an older section of town uses hardware nobody stocks on a shelf anymore, while a 1990s double-car door is usually a straightforward torsion-spring job.
We also take calls from the towns around Ankeny: Saylorville, about 4 miles out, Alleman and Elkhart at roughly 6 miles, Johnston and Polk City around 7, Bondurant at 8, Altoona at 9, and out to Pleasant Hill, Windsor Heights, Grimes, Urbandale, Slater, Huxley, Granger, Clive, Mitchellville, Madrid, Maxwell, Carlisle, Waukee, Norwalk, Woodward, Cumming, Colfax, Runnells, and Dallas Center, which run from about 10 to 20 miles. Prairie Trail, just 2 miles southwest, is close enough that it's practically part of the same service loop as our shop address.
If you're outside that stretch, ask when you call - we'd rather tell you straight than have you wait on a truck that's across the county.
What We Are Called Out For
Most calls here break down into a short list
Broken torsion springs on doors that are 15 to 30 years old, openers that have stopped responding to the remote or the wall button, rollers and hinges worn out from daily use, and cables that have frayed or jumped the drum. Given that a lot of the local stock went up between the 1980s and the early 2000s, we're also seeing original springs and openers reach the end of their rated cycle count about now, which is why spring failures cluster the way they do.
- 30 years
Cold winters put their own strain on things here
A COLD-moderate climate means grease stiffens, metal contracts, and a door that was slow in October can be dead in January. We get calls for doors that won't seal at the bottom, letting in drafts, and for openers that start struggling once the temperature drops.
We don't do new construction installs as a regular line of work
And if your door is bent badly enough on the track that straightening it would cost more than a new section, we'll tell you that instead of billing for a patch that won't hold.
Who You Are Dealing With
We're a garage door repair and service company working out of 1610 SE Cortina Dr in Ankeny. We fix what's broken on the door and opener system you already have, and we replace what's past fixing. We don't inflate a quote to make a repair look more complicated than it is, and we don't downplay a job that genuinely needs a new spring set or a new opener board.
Ankeny's household income runs higher than a lot of areas we could work in, and that shows up in what people ask for - more owners asking about quieter belt-drive openers, fewer asking us to patch something just to get one more season out of it. We work with both: a straightforward spring swap on an older door, or a full opener upgrade on a newer one.
If you want to reach us, call (515) 215-8286 or find us at /. We'll tell you what we see, what it'll take to fix it, and if it's something outside what we handle, we'll say that too rather than take the job anyway.
